Architecture Prizes

by Bill Hayes

Two winners of architecture prizes were announced recently.

The Pritzker Prize, the most prestigious award in architecture, went to Eduardo Souto de Moura of Portugal. Googles Images has photographs of his buildings. The site also has a listing of past laureates. Below is a picture of his Paula Rego Museum in Cascais, Portugal.

The American Institute of Architects awarded its highest honor, the AIA Gold Medal, to Fumihiko Maki (who won the Pritzer Prize in 1993). The award goes to “an individual whose significant body of work has had a lasting influence on the theory and practice of architecture.”

A list of previous Gold Medal recipients can be found here. You can see many of his buildings on Google Images.
