The Internet in Society

Much has been claimed about the Internet’s role in the revolutions going on in the Middle East. Some have claimed that authoritarian societies that permit their citizens to have access to the Internet have started down the road to democracy. Evgeny Morozov does not agree.

Born in Belarus, Morozov is a visiting scholar at Stanford University and a fellow at the New America Foundation. He has written articles debunking the notion that the Internet is inherently a democratic force that will help overthrow despotic governments.
